SiP - online training Psychological Communication

Being able to properly conduct interviews with your clients is an important requirement for being a successful psychologist. Psychological Communication [Dutch: Psychologische gespreksvoering] offers a number of relevant theories for helping as well as an interviewing skills model.

 

The book comes with on-line material, i.e.: video’s with helper client interactions, observation assignments and exercises. It is made up of two parts, called SiPs, or Skills in Psychology.

 

SiP 1 Basic Communication Skills for Problem Clarification (Book Chapter 6)

Having studied the relevant basic communication skills in chapter 6, students can then, either by themselves or in small groups, and where possible without the aid of their trainers, begin practising applying those skills. This is phase 1 of the interview model: Problem Clarification. The skills featured here are: 1. observing and feedback, 2. listening skills and 3. regulating skills.

 

SiP 2 Advanced Communication Skills for Gaining New Insights (Book Chapter 7)

SiP 2  features the differentiation skills discussed in Chapter 7. The skills featured here are: Advanced Accurate Empathy, Confrontation, Positive Relabeling, Examples of One’s Own and Directness.

SiPs - Getting Started

Students achieve the best results in training their communication skills by working through the exercises and information and then putting their knowledge to practice, e.g. by using role plays in a practical.

 

The book includes an entry code to access the website. Trainers and teachers can request entry codes to access the website from the publisher. This will allow them to view the answers submitted by their students to the questions included in the SiP exercises. Teacher are free to use and apply the SiPs as they see fit. For each chapter the authors have   indicated how and at which point in their curriculum a SiP can be used.
